Boring Patrol

Just a boring patrol mission.

Or is it?

IT’S NOT!

Pirates and mercenaries! Oh no!

Our boss asked us to go on a normal patrol around an area and we were doing it, but then they made us go rescue a guy who was on a meteor or asteroid or something. But on the way I managed to upgrade one of our bots, Manuel, to be better at doing the sciencey junk, which was good, because Peppy was not around today.

We hyperdrove in, and ahead of us was a field of asteroids. Like, hundreds of them! And we were told to find where this guy was, S. Arnold was his name, maybe?, and either stop him falling into the hands of our enemies (they were on the other side of the field) or bring him home with us.

The enemy didn’t really care about us, but we cloaked anyway and tried to find out where the guy was using some scans.

Johnathan V got the missile bot to send out a science probe, which was good to help us find where the guy was. Then I tried to do the same to help even more, but someone had loaded the missiles wrong and it sent out a heavy missile that was programmed to come for us out instead! What a weird thing that was. Luckily Johnathan V was able to change its target to the enemy ship, but then they sent us a message being mean.

As we were going through the field of rocks, another ship hyperdrove in behind us. Johnathan V was able to get them to suspend their hostilities for a couple of minutes, but had to pay them a whole ONE THOUSAND CREDITS!!!!1.

While the people behind us were waiting, and the people in front of us were looking for the guy, we managed to close down where the guy was, at which point there were cannons and missiles fired at us for no reason whatsoever. Just plain rude if you ask me.

Johnathan V was able to fire his big-ass gun and make a massive explosion where the missiles were coming from, but only one of the four got blown up.

The cannons hurt us a bit, but two big direct missile strikes from behind really hurt us a lot. Below is an professional artist’s rendition of what it looked from outside! (No, I didn’t draw this myself. Honest.)

Our ship was super creaky at this point, one of the life support units was down, a couple of bots were down, and we had to go on a big fixathon to make sure we survived. I am glad we had the hull stabilisers in the cargo bay, because… It was really close!

Derrick had managed to slow us down next to the rock that Arnold was on, and was able to pick them up. But the enemy ship beside us was really trying to hurt us a lot at this point. But then they forgot to turn and ran into two big rocks in a row and looked like they almost exploded. We sent a missile after them. And the science probe, too.

With S. Arnold on board, Derrick sped up, to super duper speed! The missiles following us were unable to catch us, especially with our cloaks, and the cannon firing ship had gotten hit by a missile and exploded. (The science probe didn’t blow up.) ((I wonder what will happen to it.))

We had gotten away! With the S. Arnold guy and was able to bring him home without having to use one of his back up clones.

All in all, it was very risky, but everywhere that got shot, I was not in, so it was okay.
